Scan → surface → CAD review

Two QUICKSURFACE tools.
One focused test.

Use Pro for standalone surface reconstruction, or work directly inside SOLIDWORKS with its add-in. Start with one named scan region, then compare the actual fit and editing results.

Standalone desktop application

QUICKSURFACE Pro

Fit freeform surfaces and combine organic shape with mechanical features. Export the reconstructed surface or solid as STEP or IGES for the next CAD step.

  • Imports STL, OBJ and PLY meshes.
  • Includes advanced automatic surfacing and deviation analysis.
  • Runs independently of SOLIDWORKS.
Works inside SOLIDWORKS Desktop

QUICKSURFACE add-in

Bring scan reference data into Bill’s familiar workspace. Extract sections and reference geometry, fit surfaces, and check the CAD against the original scan.

  • Requires an installed SOLIDWORKS Desktop license.
  • The current download page lists SOLIDWORKS 2019+ and Windows 11, 64-bit.
  • The add-in version minimum includes 2021, but SOLIDWORKS lists Windows 11 support from 2022 SP2. Verify the OS/CAD/add-in combination before installation.
Activate in the desktop software. The manufacturer offers 30-day trials. Enter the product’s own key there; this page never asks for a license key. A Pro key does not establish add-in entitlement. Installation and activation on the target PC remain unverified.

Prefer a GO3D remote workstation?

Explore a dedicated GPU desktop with compatible CAD, QUICKSURFACE and the GO3D connector. The pilot can be configured now; live access follows licensing and workstation setup.

Set up once, then test a small region

  1. Install the right product

Use the official links above on the Windows workstation. For Pro, open Settings → Activate Software, enter the trial key privately and confirm activation. For the add-in, follow its separate trial instructions and enable it in SOLIDWORKS.

  2. Keep the source as the reference

Work on a copy of the chosen STL, OBJ or PLY. Record its revision, units and coordinates. Keep the same source XYZ frame and named boundary for each comparison; record any necessary transform.

  3. Fit only what the design needs

Try a curved interface or mounting region first. Compare the fitted surface to the scan. Preserve the original exterior as the control; a smooth-looking result alone is not a successful fit.

  4. Return the measured result

Save the native project and export STEP/IGES as appropriate. Reopen the result in the target CAD tool. Record deviation, surface count, file size, software version and the actual editing operation tested.

Bring the result back to GO3D

In the viewer, choose Design with library → Surface & color. Keep a separate saved request for each product’s test so one result does not overwrite the other. Record the full product name and version in Software version used, together with the measured results.

A successful STEP import or surface fit does not automatically produce a clean closed solid or editable feature history. Bill’s requested cut, shell, fillet or mounting operation still needs its own check.

This is a desktop handoff. No QUICKSURFACE activation, surface reconstruction or unattended processing runs in this browser. Existing source files remain unchanged; engineering and manufacturing approval remain pending.
